On a long flight recently, I was noticing how much we can learn from flight attendants / stewardesses. They work continuously for many, many hours, and their job is to make sure that hundreds of passengers are all comfortable and that every one of those passengers has every little thing he/she needs and wants. They respond to every passenger's requests, whether it's to switch seat assignments, get a drink, or help put a heavy carry-on into the overhead compartment. They take care of every little thing anyone asks for -- no request is too small or insignificant. And they do it all with a smile, speaking respectfully to everyone, never yelling, always staying calm... for several hours at a time. It's really quite amazing.
How often do I do things for other people with a smile? If someone asks me to get her a drink, do I automatically get it, or do I say or think, "why don't you get the drink for yourself"? Do I try to make sure that everyone around me is comfortable? Do I always speak calmly to everyone, whether strangers or friends or relatives?
