R' Krohn -- הכרת הטוב

Today I had the זכות of hearing R' Paysach Krohn speak.  I would like to share with you just one idea and story that he said.
The main idea that R' Krohn spoke about was about how we are in the "i generation," but iPhones, iPods, and iPads are all written with a lowercase "i".  How can we become "uppercase people"?  Through Icare, Ihelp, Igive -- by caring about other people, by being sensitive to others and their needs.

One concept he spoke about was the importance of saying thank you.  We should really have הכרת הטוב to every person who does something that benefits us -- even if he/she gets paid for it.
If we make sure to say thank you to each and every person who does something for us, we will become more sensitive to others, and we will become "uppercase people."

And obviously, he told a story:  R' Krohn was in LaGuardia airport, and he was going to fly Air Canada.  As he was waiting in the terminal for his plane, at one point, he noticed that everyone in the terminal was looking in the same direction -- so he looked over in that direction, and saw two security guards walking from one gate to another, clearly looking for someone.  Obviously, that's pretty scary.  Then the security guards stopped at R' Krohn's gate, and then they walked right up to R' Krohn.  R' Krohn said, "can I help you?"  The two guards held out a cell phone and said, "is this your cell phone?"  R' Krohn said, "it can't be my cell phone -- my cell phone is right here in my pocket," and he reached into his pocket -- but no cell phone!  So he realized it must be his cell phone, and he thanked the security guards for bringing it to him.  Then he asked the security guards, "how did you know it was mine?"  They responded, "do you remember what you said to us when you went through security?  You said, 'Thank you for doing this job.  Because of you, I feel safer.'  No one else has ever thanked us.  Because you thanked us, we were going to find you to return your cell phone -- no matter what!"

Postscript to the story:  R' Krohn told this story over, and a man who heard the story was later in JFK, flying Air Canada.  The man remembered what R' Krohn said about הכרת הטוב, so he thanked the security guards.  And the security guards said, "Oh, so you heard the Rabbi tell the story?!"
